The NET_Desk is a research prototype, developed for AutoDesk, around the idea of reimagining our traditional homogenized work spaces. A series of projects explored the unique affordances of physical objects and the meta information that surround them. In this case, the role of a modern Art Director and the element of paper is examined.
Utilizing ideas from the Internet of Things, all printed paper items were given a unique identity. For the demo, a barcode is assigned with every object. With a scanner, a wide array of related information can be accessed. In addition, printed color swatches can be used to assign coloring to digital artwork files. The NET_Desk system also allows an Art Director to quickly view versions, live chat with collaborators, and make more informed decisions based on this alternative mode of interaction.
